After the introduction of mass transit, basketball's history in Massachusetts didn't end. The Boston Globe was created by Benjamin Franklin in 1775. Franklin set out to create a free press that would provide news and opinions from the surrounding area. His efforts were praised and the newspaper was adopted by the public as a way to keep them informed about events in their area.
The first basketball courts were constructed at the College of Sacred Heart in Springfield, just a century later. The Boston University would eventually make the college a part of its athletic department.
